Early Years

Nursery and Reception

As an early years provider, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and participate in The Bristol Standard.


We provide a rich learning environment with a combination of teacher-led and child-initiated activities and there is a high emphasis on learning through play. Children are observed and regularly assessed on the progress they are making so that progressive learning steps can be set. 

All children aged 3 and 4 years qualify for 15 hours of free childcare per week. Some families may qualify for 30 hours.

LATEST: For parents whose children only qualify for 15 hours of childcare, your child/ren can attend our Early Years setting for 30 hours per week at no extra cost!

Years 1 - 13

From Year 1 onwards, pupils at CCS benefit from the combination of individualised learning and group work.


Individualised: Core Subjects

CCS utilises a mastery-based individualised programme of learning called Accelerated Christian Education (ACE), which is firmly based on biblical values. ACE is a recognised and proved curriculum that is used in Christian schools throughout the world.

Through ACE, students study the core subjects (English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, History and Geography), and older students can select from a range of additional subjects. ACE encourages pupils to take responsibility for their own learning through daily goal setting, regular self-assessments and a reward system. Students work at their own pace and receive individual attention and support whenever needed.

Group Work: Non-Core Subjects

All other subjects emphasise group work, discussions, exchanging ideas and practical work. These collaborative sessions balance the private study of ACE.

As a whole, the curriculum provided at Carmel Christian School offers a range of experiences that contribute to every child receiving a full and rich education. These experiences support and champion our culture and ensure that our pupils benefit from a wide range of academic, spiritual, moral, social and cultural activities. These activities enrich their lives and those of our whole school community and make them proud of their British values and the diverse society to which they belong and play an active part.
